Alzheimer’s ravages the brain, robbing people of their cognition and eventually their body’s ability to function. It’s especially frightening because it typically strikes during a person’s senior years when other aging processes are already making them more vulnerable.
Healthcare quality professionals make it their mission to optimize patient care, safety, and outcomes by implementing healthcare policy and process improvements. Among other positive impacts, their work results in reduced hospital readmissions, fewer deaths caused by avoidable error, and improved care coordination among departments.
In support of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Healthcare Management Solutions, LLC (HMS) is implementing changes across CMS’ State Performance Standards System (SPSS) to ensure that state agencies are effectively conducting survey and certification activities of healthcare facilities which in turn ensures patients are cared for appropriately within these facilities.
In these situations, someone has either already been harmed or will likely be in harm’s way in the near future. By definition, that makes these situations incredibly dangerous, and it’s imperative that they are acted on urgently.
One of the biggest fears people have about entering their senior years is that they’ll be placed and forgotten in a nursing home. Many hold an image of those nursing homes as places of substandard care that warehouse people with failing bodies and fading minds.
